Somatic Experiencing is a gentle, body-based, non-cathartic form of trauma therapy. When we experience overwhelming events – such as birth stress, childhood abuse or neglect, falls, sexual assault, violence, car accidents, invasive medical procedures, war – our nervous system reactions can become stuck because our instinctual survival responses like flight or flight were interrupted. We can experience this as panic attacks, flashbacks, anxiety, restlessness, sleeplessness, always feeling on guard, chronic pain, depression and addictive behaviors. Somatic Experiencing helps to complete these survival responses, increase body awareness and create the resources necessary for healing trauma, as well as restoring resiliency to our bodies and our whole being.
Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy
Craniosacral therapy is a healing practice which uses light hand contact to work with the flow and health of a subtle movement in the body. This cranial movement can be felt within the whole body by a trained therapist who will “listen” to irregularities caused by injuries, illnesses, pain and trauma, whether physical or emotional ones. With the biodynamic model I help to create a safe space to support a client’s inherent capacity to heal. This benefits people who experience neck and back pain, TMJ disorders, sinus problems, anxiety and panic, mothers preparing for birth and postnatal care for babies.
Shiatsu literally means finger pressure. It is a form of Asian bodywork that integrates traditional Chinese medicine with modern anatomy and physiology. A therapist works with unique points along channels or meridians in the body to balance energy and stimulate one’s healing abilities. Shiatsu helps prevent disease, is relaxing and energizing. It benefits people with allergies, PMS, chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, muscle tension and headaches.
